Lamb and Calf Day is the major fundraising event for the Pauatahanui School and historically held each year on the first Saturday in November. Proceeds raised help to purchase educational resources and learning facilities for our school that enhance the overall learning environment.

Over 4000 people attend the event consistently each year.   Last years event was a great success and very well organised. The success of Lamb and Calf Day is dependent entirely on a band of willing volunteers and support from the business community. Virtually every parent gets involved in assisting in some way.

Advertising
Although ‘Lamb and Calf Day’ has an established reputation we still advertise. This is done by local area roadside signage, editorials and advertising in the local papers, mailbox fliers, listings in the Porirua City Council event guide, and community radio announcements.  Last year there was media coverage in the Dominion Post and local papers (Kapi Mana and Whitby Newsbrief), with articles and photo’s.

Sponsorship and Donations
All contributions, will receive acknowledgement on the day. This promotion is by way of public announcements, signage and advertising particularly in our local newspapers.   We can also offer you a further promotional opportunity by providing a link from our web site to your web site.   Your name is added to our handout for the day and this year we anticipate a “wall of fame” for our sponsors.   You also receive a certificate of thanks.

School Plant Nursery
There are plants for sale on the day that have been grown and nurtured in our very own school nursery within the school grounds.

Attractions
Lamb and Calf Day is a great family day out, with attractions for all ages.  The centre of attention is the traditional Lamb and Calf day judging, where students show the lambs, calves and other farm animals to demonstrate for care, training and knowledge and animal management.

Very few, if any school gala’s within Wellington region feature pony rides, pet lamb competitions, and farm animal petting zoo.
We also have a sheep shearing display running throughout the day, this year we plan to have a person spinning the wool situated next to the shearing display.

Other attractions on the day include;

• All day stage Entertainment; mostly featuring students of the school with dance, music and performing arts.
• Various competitions; Guess the Pig’s Weight, Needle in the Haystack, Cow Plop Bingo, Playground Challenge, Nail Driving, Have a go on a Mini Digger…etc
