My name is Sonia Malpas (nee Nicol) and I am trying to find out as much as possible about my early family. Grace Alexander and Alexander Nicol arrived from Paisly Scotland about 1865. They were married in 1866 at the residence of James Mitchell, Burnside, Porirua Road. They farmed in Horokiwi and it seems had 11 children. My Great Grandfather Alexander Nicol (son of the above) lived in Pauatahanui and
may have owned/managed one of the hotels, the general store and the local hall. He married Matilda Mullen in 1901 and was a member of the local brass band.
Names that the family married into are Iggulden, Carter, Bradey, Herbert, Olsen, Draper, Flyger.
