Early indications are that Belmont is not an alternative to Puketiro, but in addition. We're not challenging a single wind farm application, but potentially several.

Focus has been on Puketiro and indeed we need to increase our focus and have a lot of work to do, but Belmont is likely to be over twice the power output of Puketiro.

I'm keen to know if anyone has details of what is being proposed on Belmont.

I do not know what is planned for Belmont Regional Park but Kapi Mana News Janury 4 2006 noted that GWRC had been looking at possible sites on council land including Mt Climie, Belmont and Puketiro and Chris Laidlaw, GWRC, was quoted as saying Puketiro was the "ideal place to start." This implies that this is only the beginning .......

Is'nt it fantastic.. Maybe one day we ( NZ ) won't be reliant on imported oil for security of our electricty supply. NZ needs to build several 1000 MW more capacity.. Expect these mills to be popping up everywhere.. the alternative of course is that in 10 years you will have an energy bill of thousadns of dollars every month for each house in NZ..

I agree - projects like this are good for NZ's economic future and for the environment. And I'd much rather look at a windfarm than at the typical residential development in this area...

Yes.. Whitby has become an ugly mess of bad architecture.
